HOW MUCH DOES WORRYING HURT?

Attitude is everything. Get all worked up about stuff and your ticker pays part of the price. But cultivate a "this too shall pass" attitude and you may help protect yourself from heart and blood vessel trouble -- maybe even something as serious as a heart attack.
Before and After
Anxiety is so hard on the heart that it also affects a person's prognosis after diagnosis with heart disease. Highly anxious people with heart disease are twice as likely to suffer a heart attack or die compared with their more mellow-minded peers. One way to see if you are at risk: Answer this question: Can't settle down your mind at night?
Walk Away from the Worry Whammy
But there's good news, too. Anxious people who learn how to mellow out can undo some of that potential damage. Exercises like walking or lifting weights do wonders for an unsettled mind.

Another way to deal with stress? Controlled Breathing:

Here’s the method:

Lie on your back, placing one hand over your heart and the other on your abdomen.
Inhale slowly and deeply through your nose for a count of 4.

Watch the hand on your abdomen rise as you fill your lungs with air, expanding your chest.
(The hand over your heart should barely move, if at all.)

Hold your breath for a count of 4.
Exhale slowly through the mouth or nose for a count of 4.
Repeat for 10 full breaths. Work up to 2 or 3 sets of 10 breaths each.

Keep the following guidelines in mind while practicing controlled breathing:
Stop if you feel faint or dizzy
Inhale slowly and deeply through the nose…..exhale slowly through the mouth or nose.
Breathe in a smooth, regular pattern…..concentrate while inhaling on filling the lower portion of your lungs.

FOOD MONOGAMY - Beat the Death of Dieting

Yeah, sure, variety may be the spice of life, but it also may be the death of dieting. Having a lot of food choices is what makes us live like we're in a never-ending speed-eating contest. But research shows that if you decrease your food choices, you'll automatically decrease your appetite and waist size. Pick the one meal you most often rush through and automate it. For most people, lunch is the hurry-up meal. So find a healthy lunch you like -- salad with grilled chicken and a light olive oil dressing or turkey on whole-grain bread -- and have it for lunch every day. Every day. Yes, every day. Another good choice for lunch is a steaming bowl of soup. The liquid in soup makes us feel full - even though we didn't eat alot of solid food.

The same old routine is the point. More and more research has found that putting a cap on the variety of foods and tastes you experience helps you control your weight. How does it work? It seems that when you have meals with lots of diverse flavors, it takes more calories to make you feel full. That's why we tend to eat more -- to satisfy our taste buds, not our bellies -- when enjoying foods like Mexican or Indian cuisine. We definitely don't want you to become bored, but if you make a habit of eating the same food for at least one meal a day, it'll decrease your temptations and help you stop thinking about flavor feasts. It's one of the ways to automate your brain so that your habits follow. Reference: YOU: On a Diet. Roizen, M. F., Oz, M. C., New York: Simon & Schuster, 2006.

HEALTH TIPS IMPROVE YOUR MEMORY BY CHEWING GUM!

If your memory's not what it used to be, then you'll be interested in hearing about a recent university study. The study found that you can improve your memory by chewing gum!

Researchers took 75 adults and gave them a 20-minute battery of memory tests. One-third of the participants chewed gum during the tests. Another third took the test without chewing. And the remaining third were simply asked to mimic chewing movements with nothing in their mouths.

Result: the gum-chewers' scores were 24 percent higher on immediate word recall, and 36% higher on delayed word recall. Let me put these numbers in perspective for you: If you'd taken the delayed memory test and gotten a grade of "64" on it, chewing gum would have boosted your score to a perfect 100! That's pretty darned impressive.
Why does chewing gum boost people's memory scores? The researchers aren't sure. But they have their theories.

One theory is that chewing gum boosts activity in the hippocampus, an area in the brain important for memory. This is backed up by MRI studies that showed the hippocampus lighting up when people chew.

Another theory poses a far simpler explanation: It's been shown that when people chew gum, their heart beats faster. Naturally, this would result in greater blood flow and more oxygen to the brain.

Whatever the reason, you may want to consider chewing gum the next time you need your memory to be sharp. But please, please, please avoid chewing gum that is loaded with sugar. And stay away from gum that is sweetened with nasty chemicals like aspartame or sucralose.

FRIENDS....LET'S RALLY FOR TIBET

Dear friends,

In just 36 hours, 253,553 of us have supported the Dalai Lama's call for dialogue and human rights in Tibet. This is an incredible response--if each of us can get 4 more of our friends to sign the petition, we'll hit 1 million this week! Just quickly forward the email below to your friends and family with a personal note from you:

Dear friends,

After decades of suffering, the Tibetan people have burst onto the streets in protests and riots. The spotlight of the upcoming Olympic Games is now on China, and Tibetan Nobel peace prize winner the Dalai Lama is calling to end all violence through restraint and dialogue--he urgently needs the support of the world's people.China's leaders are lashing out publicly at the Dalai Lama--but we're told many Chinese officials believe dialogue is the best hope for stability in Tibet.

China's leadership is right now considering a crucial choice between crackdown and dialogue that could determine Tibet's--and China's--future.We can affect this historic choice--China does care about its international reputation, and we can help them choose the right path. China's President Hu Jintao needs to hear that the 'Made in China' brand and the upcoming Olympics in Beijing will succeed only if he makes the right choice. But it will take an avalanche of global people power to get his attention. Click below now to join 250,000 others and sign the petition--and tell absolutely everyone you can right away--our goal is 1 million voices united for Tibet:http://www.avaaz.org/en/tibet_end_the_violence/21.php

China's economy is dependent on "Made in China" exports that we all buy, and the government is keen to make the Olympics in Beijing this summer a celebration of a new and respected China. China is also a sprawling, diverse country with much brutality in its past, so it has good reasons to be concerned about stability -- some of Tibet's rioters killed innocent people. But President Hu must recognize that the greatest danger to Chinese stability and development today comes from hardliners who advocate escalating repression, not from those Tibetans seeking dialogue and reform. We will deliver our petition directly to Chinese officials in New York, London and Beijing, but it must be a massive number first.

Please forward this email to your address book with a note explaining to your friends why this is important, or use our tell-a-friend tool to email your address book--it will come up after you sign.

The Tibetan people have suffered quietly for decades. It is finally their moment to speak--we must help them be heard.

CALL FOR YOUR HELP FOR TIBET

AN APPEAR FOR YOUR HELP FROM the VENERABLE ZA RINPOCHE

Dear Friends,

I am deeply concerned over the cultural genocide happening in many parts of Tibet.
The Tibetan nation is facing serious danger. The Tibetan people have been very forgiving and engaged in peaceful protests in Tibet and many parts of the world. Recent semi violent protests are a manifestation of the deep-rooted dissatisfaction of the Tibetan people under the present governance.

The Dalai Lama spoke out strongly, saying that Chinese authorities "simply rely on using force in order to simulate peace, a peace brought by force using a rule of terror."
Here I am asking for your support for the Tibetans living under China's "rule of terror."
Please call your Elected Representatives today, and urge them to call for an immediate international intervention in Tibet.

Please urge your government to strongly support the Dalai Lama's call for a United Nations team of investigators to go to Tibet as soon as possible.

Please make an appeal to your government to do everything in its power to urge China to withdraw military and security forces, release those detained, and allow peaceful protest. China must halt house-to-house searches; and authorities must refrain from any further arrests of Tibetan protesters even after its so-called surrender deadline has passed on Monday at midnight. China must immediately allow foreign journalists back into all Tibetan areas (Tibetan Autonomous Region as well as the Tibetan areas of Gansu, Qinghai and Sichuan).

With my folded hands at my heart,I pray with my great compassion,May there be peace and harmony all over,And may there be unity and stability in Tibet.

Thank you.

Za Rinpoche

WHAT YOU'RE PUTTING IN YOUR MOUTH IS KILLING YOU

Did you know the healthy life expectancy of Americans is ranked #37 in the world. With the trillions of dollars we spend every year on health care….HOW CAN THAT BE TRUE? Because we’re not feeding our bodies plant-based nutrients. Instead….we’re feeding them empty calories and food with little substance. The body was programmed to live 120 years….but how many Americans will live that long?

FACT: If you don’t change the way you eat, you’re going to die young.

Isn’t it ironic that in the land of plenty, so many are basically starving to death? We’re getting more than enough calories but little plant-based nutrients that we need to survive. Because we don’t get what the body needs, we eat more. We’re obese and malnourished at the same time. Today 35% of Americans are considered obese, while 65% are considered overweight. America is now the fattest nation in the world.

The nutrient content of our food supply has decreased about 50% in the last 50 years. Food is grown in poorly maintained soil, picked before it is ripe, and left in storage containers weeks before consumption. In 1955 you could get your daily requirement of Vitamin A by eating two peaches. Today, you would have to eat 53 peaches to receive the same nutrition.

Do you see any connection between the decrease in our plant-based food nutrients and the rise of all chronic health challenges? Are you giving your body what it needs to repair itself? The body is programmed for Health. It has an innate ability to repair and restore itself if we simply give it what it needs to do the job.

Since we no longer consume plant-based nutrients, our bodies don’t receive the eight essential plant sugars called monosaccharides :

1. MANNOSE
2. FUCOSE
3. GALACTOSE (from dairy products)
4. GLUCOSE (we get this in our diet)
5. N-ACETYLGALACTOSAMINE
6. N-ACETYLGLUCOSAMINE
7. N-ACETYLNEUROMINIC ACID
8. XYLOSE

We get two of the essential sugars in our diet but the other plant-based nutrients are non-existent – even the one we need the most…..MANNOSE. The job of these sugars is cell communication and identification. Without this ability, the body cannot identify and kill cancer and other foreign cells. What is worse….protector cells start to attack healthy cells. We see evidence in this because in 1950 there were only six auto-immune diseases. TODAY THERE ARE 88.

GREATEST HEALTH CARE DISCOVERY OF OUR TIME!

What is the solution to our malnutrition? How can we be healthier? How can our cells regain their innate communication?

GIVE THE BODY the PLANT-BASED SUGARS IT NEEDS….IT WILL DO THE REST!

In the 21st century we must use dietary supplements! They are no longer a luxury. Science has only discovered how important these plant-based nutrients are for optimum body functions within the last 25 years. Glycobiology identifies the importance of plant-based estrogens in cell communication and overall health of the human body.

Supplementing a healthy diet with essential plant-based monosaccharides can give your body what it needs to:

* Repair
* Restore
* Rejuvenate

The result for you: A healthy body! You’ll feel GREAT and have the energy to live fully.

WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU HAD THE ENERGY TO DO ALL THE THINGS YOU WANTED TO DO? WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU FELT FULLY ALIVE?
